Another year another Call of Duty game...

When I was a younger man November meant two things to me: my birthday month and a new Call of Duty. Every year I would pick up a copy of the new game as soon as humanly possible. I would have this ritual where I would not touch multiplayer until I finished the campaign. The story was always entertaining and packed with the same experience of a Hollywood feature film. After banging out 8-10 hours of a satisfying campaign then I would dive head first into MP. So many great memories World at War, Modern Warfare 1 and 2, Black Ops 1 and 2. They were just solid games. Now I am not sure if it was just me getting older or the quality of games changed, but eventually it just started to feel stale. By Advanced Warfare I abandoned my ritual of campaign only first and the MP failed to keep me hooked like previous titles. It started to feel like paying $80 a year for a map pack. Its the same basic game just with a different story setting and some slightly new features. I only recently made a bigger return to the series enjoying the Modern Warfare and MW2 reboots. I really liked ground war as it mixed Call of duty gunplay within a Battlefield game mode. I felt MW3 was a huge cash grab. It was just a bunch of old maps remaster with new graphics. Now don't get wrong I love a shot of nostalgia as much as the next gamer, but sprinkle it in with new stuff. It felt like Activision was saying these idiots will buy anything just slap a bunch of old maps together paste a $100 price tag on it and watch the cash role in. Like many COD fans I said I will never buy another cod game again... until the trailer of the new one suckers me in. I am already an Xbox Gamepass subscriber so I did not have to shell out additional coin this year to play Call of Duty.

This years load out screen

Now that excessively long introduction is over how is Black Ops 6? Its not bad. At the time of writing this I have only played MP and zombies and I am enjoying it. Gunplay feels good, interesting selection of guns, maps for the most part are enjoyable (Nuketown is back!!). I guess the big change this iteration is the omni movement system. I am not too fussed about it, but I feel they integrated it well into the gameplay. It doesn't feel like people are spamming these new movements and really getting the upper hand. My biggest beef with call of duty these days is the immersion breaking skins. You want to sell skins? Fine. Can't stop Capitalism. But at least make them make sense. Its a war themed game set in the 1990s why is there a robot android skin? Sell military themed skins that at least fit the atmosphere. Season 1 just dropped and I am sure there will be more of this nonsense.

Just me getting wrecked

Zombies is pretty fun. Its back to round based with the option to extract like in Cold war. They gave us two maps to play about in. One is an urban setting with a small town USA vibe, while the other is some military installation. I haven't played a whole lot, but one match with a couple of friends and one Rando we got to like wave 35. The rando carried us through most of the match. This guy new all the little Easter eggs and how to get the Jet gun so he was mowing down the zombies while we just acted like noobs. It was quality entertainment. Last year I played MW3 zombies mode once, declared I hated it, never tried it again.

New zombies map: Liberty Falls

So first impressions its an enjoyable Call of Duty to keep me occupied until Delta Force enters early access. I have high hopes for that one after the open beta. But that's just one dudes opinion. Let me know what you think in the comments or on social media.

As always thanks for stopping by and stay safe out there gamers.
