There are only a three certainties in life: death, taxes, and a new Call of Duty for the holiday season. Personally, I am a veteran of the battlefield. I used to purchase the game brand new each year. I even had a ritual where I would not play 1 multi-player match until the campaign was complete. Then like most gamers video games took a backseat to more adult commitments like my career and raising a family. I stopped getting Call of Duty each year. The ones I did get with my limited time I just ignored the campaigns and got into multi-player matches as it didn't require the same amount of time commitment. When my son got older I would just watch him play the campaigns so I still got a little bit of the story. I pretty much skipped the last two entries into the series and my enthusiasm for Call of Duty almost disappeared.

Now it's 2022 and lately AAA studios have really been coming up short with fans and consumers with their final products. So it was with some hesitation that I purchased the new call of duty. I enjoyed Modern Warfare (2019) so I didn't think it could hurt to get into the sequel (other than the pain of my bank account spending close to a $100 CAD). I think what really attracted me to the new game was watching some YouTubers playing Ground War. These gamers who play more tactical shooters sounded like they where enjoying this combined arms combat mode. I felt that was a promising sign and tempted me to open up the old digital wallet.

Before I get into my opinion let me get my pet peeve out right off the bat. The size of the game. This is not just aimed at call of Duty and I get these games are large for a reason, but my god. I had to go on a massive uninstall murder spree to find some space for this behemoth. Before I could play the game I got hit with a message saying my drivers where not up to date and it directed me to the Nvidia site to download new drivers. So after a super long install I also had to download and update my graphic card drivers. When I finally got to play I did a couple quick TDM and domination games. I had fun. The gunplay is enjoyable and the time to kill is quicker which I like in a shooter. The most fun I have had so far though is with Ground War. Large maps, capture points, tanks, APCs, helicopters picture Battlefield, but enjoyable. I hope they continue to bring content to that mode such as new maps or vehicles. Warzone 2.0 dropped, and I am still terrible at it. When you have a god awful KD like myself playing a game where you dying ends your participation just turns up the rage to 11. DMZ is interesting with its PVE and PVP elements. Completing objectives, take out targets, and extract via helicopter.

I haven't tried the campaign yet. I offered my son a "turn" and he sat there for like 8 hours until he completed the campaign. If I have some time around the holidays I will try out the campaign. Overall, I am enjoying myself and see myself definitely putting more hours on the battlefield.
