Anyone who knows me knows I am a colossal Star Wars fan. I am struggling to keep up with all the new stuff Disney is cranking out, but the original movies I have seen a gajillion times. So when I saw there was a free to play hero shooter with bounty hunters, Wookies, and a droid who thinks he is a Jedi I figured I should try it out.

Star Wars Hunters is a hero arena shooter created by Zynga and is available on Android OS, iOS, and the Nintendo Switch. You play as different heroes with there own unique abilities and ultra powers. As you play you unlock new characters and game modes. There is a battlepass and a shop, but it does appear all but one of the characters are unlockable from just game play (The Mandalorian character comes with purchasing the battlepass). The game modes are very familiar with modes like a domination, TDM, hardpoint, and something like capture the flag but with a droid. The maps are set in different Star Wars locations across the universe.

So, my first thought here is why just mobile and Nintendo? Why not PlayStation, Xbox, or PC? Missing a huge piece of the gaming market place here. I would have loved to keyboard and mouse this game which is my preference with shooters. I would hope eventually the bring it to other platforms if they want the game to grow in popularity. The game itself is actually pretty fun. Most of the characters are entertaining and easy to get the hang of. The game modes are not very unique its the same thing we see in any shooter on the market today. The matches are very quick which I actually like. You can get in a few rounds before bed or work and not feel stressed there is not enough time to play. The graphics are cartoony and give a Fortnite vibe, which I don't mind for this as it feels like one of the animated series like Clone Wars or Rebels. The UI definitely gives mobile game vibes as its cluttered and confusing. There are so many different screens to claim rewards you can easily miss it. I bought the battlepass and got the additional character who is really fun to play as. The progression is not bad and you unlock boosters by completing challenges that automatically apply XP to the pass.

Overall, its a fun game to mess around with but at this time I am not sure there is enough to hold people long term. If the plan is to take customers away from the other hero shooters on the market they are going to have to bring way more content. Also, I feel like the marketing was very lacking. I heard about the game once then didn't hear about it again until it launched. With it being a Disney IP you would have thought they would have gotten a big time Twitch streamer to be playing it on their channel. Every time, I check Twitch there are less than 100 viewers for Hunters. My hope is for Star Wars Hunters to be successful, but based on current state I would not bet my mortgage on it.

Well there is my first impressions for what its worth. Thank for stopping by and being a patron of the blog. Stay safe out there gamers.
