In the beginning...

For the first post on my blog, I thought it would be important to briefly highlight “who is PadrePlayz?”

I am a dad who plays video games. The only thing I like to do more than playing video games is.. Well.. Talking about video games. So due to the fact Twitter only allows me 280 characters I thought I would start a blog. A passion project where I can just ramble on about video games and you can tell me if I am a moron or not.

My origins start in the 1980s. A pregnant wife yelling at her husband to shut off that stupid Nintendo Super Mario thingy and help her with housework. Those were my parents. So, yah I was destined to play video games from the start. When I arrived, we already had the Nintendo Entertainment System waiting to become my first best friend. Hours poured into saving princesses in Super Mario, shooting clay pigeons with the light gun, and searching dungeons looking for pieces of the sacred Triforce.

The next chapter I call the book of Genesis… Sega Genesis. We made the leap to 16-bit not with the NES new baby brother, but with the edgy new kid in town. I blast processed my little brains out in the 90s with that little blue hedgehog and every sports game imaginable. My whole world changed though December 1996 when my parents bought me a personal computer. They also got me a flea market bootleg of NHL97. It was hockey…. In the third dimension… it might have well been heroin because I injected it right into my veins. As amazing as playing NHL in 3D on DOS was, nothing got me higher than the First .. Person.. Shooter. The 90s was like the Renaissance of FPS .. Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Blood .. They where just all masterpieces in their own right.

As the 90s turned into the 2000s I continued to game, and my gaming tastes became a lot more eclectic. Strategy, sports, shooters, simulators, I tried to taste them all. I call my self “the sampler” I like to stick a little toothpick into each game and take a bite. Now I am a father of 2 and I game when I can. Both my kids are indoctrinated into the church of video games, so we all try to play together. My son is 7 years older than my daughter, so I have been playing Minecraft for more than a decade now… I dream in 3D blocks and it’s terrifying.

Well, that’s just a quick glimpse into my background as a gamer. I look forward to writing more and sharing my passion with the rest of the universe.
