MWIII First Impressions

Hey there Gamers!
Right around this time last year I did a quick first impressions blog on MWII. MWII was fun, but failed to hold me long term and after a couple of months I hit the uninstall button on my Battlenet client. Even though I told myself I wouldn't be seduced this year by Activision or the FOMO of watching others play; I broke down and got MWIII. With my PC getting on in years and somewhere I read the minimum requirements were to have a SSD, I opted for the console version. So I ordered a physical copy from BestBuy and patiently waited for it to arrive in the post.

The day it arrived I quickly peeled off the cellophane and popped the disc in the old Xbox. Immediately I was hit with a massive 145GB download which is madness. Is there even data on these discs anymore? I feel bad for the gamers out there who live in areas with spotty internet or download limits. So I left it to download for two hours and came back just in time to painfully watch the download bar slowly get to 100%. By that time in classic adult gamer fashion, I was already too tired to play so I saved the inaugural first run through for the next day.
OK! new day with no massive updates and all my naps out of the way it was time to get to it. The very first thing I did was get a multiplayer round under my belt. The first new Call of Duty map of 2023 was well a remastered map from when I was a college student. Terminal is the classic airport map from the original MWII. While I appreciated the dosage of nostalgia and the fact I could navigate the map with lots of familiarity I noticed something right away. The fact I payed full price for some kind of map pack expansion of MWII. The aesthetics of the game are pretty much identical. Lobbies and menus are pretty much the same as its predecessor and I am not noticing much or any improvement in graphics. Plus all the maps (at least the ones I have played so far) are remakes from previous installments.

A little disappointed in this I decided to try out zombies mode. This must be brand new right? They are not going to recycle more garbage from last year? Zombies is pretty much DMZ mode from MWII now with zombies. You go in, do missions, and extract out, essentially the same formula. Except, now there are zombies to contend with. I know the map is new but the whole thing seems lazy to me. Why couldn't they try something completely new? It just seems like a last minute ditch effort to cram zombies into the preexisting MWII framework.
Did I try the campaign? I have not honestly played a CoD campaign since WWII. They honestly, are just not the good anymore. Plus the reviews say the campaign is the worst ever in the franchise and is just DMZ with a story layered on top of it. Again, the whole thing feels lazy and honestly just another Activision cash grab.

So what are my MWIII first impressions? Well its definitely call of Duty you can say that. Its not like your not going to have fun shooting up and trash talking dudes online. It plays really well and I would like to say a slight improvement from MWII in that regard. Overall, I am disappointed at the unoriginal MW 2.5 we where given and paid full price for. I want to say it is the worst Activision cash grab to date. I am disappointed in myself for sending my hard earned cash another year to Activision when in reality they do not deserve it.
Anyways that's my take on it. Feel free to drop a comment on the blog or on social media. Thank you for stopping by and stay safe out there gamers.
