Quick Thoughts on Battlefield 6 Beta

Hey friends. This fella got the opportunity to try out the Battlefield 6 Beta and thought I would go over some of my initial thoughts. Full disclosure I only played about 2.5 hours so it is not a comprehensive review.
Initially, I was not even able to launch BF 6 due to my PC not having "secure boot" enabled. I am no computer science grad, but I am fairly computer literate and can troubleshoot many issues. This fix was so annoying and not user friend. So apparently the anti-cheat will not work unless this feature is enabled. You cannot just enable this function in your Windows settings. You need to boot your PC into Bios mode to change this function. My PC did not display the ability to enable or disable secure boot. So I needed to disable CSM support to be able to enable secure boot. I was an inch away from saying "fuck it" and giving up before I figured it out. I wonder how many other players came across this error and if they where able to fix it. So not a great start.
The game main menu UI is a little hectic. It is kind of all over the place and confusing. To be fair I always thought Battlefield games had some funky UI. I ended up jumping into some closed weapon all out combat. My understanding is "closed weapon" had weapons locked to class like traditional Battlefield. Open is the opposite where all classes can use any weapon type. As I am a traditionalist and read that players "PTFO" more in closed, I thought I would experience the Beta this way.

I definitely saw the attempt to bring the game back closer to it's BF3/BF4 roots. Current day technology, return of the class system, in the boots of some no name frontline grunt. This is something I absolutely appreciate. I liked the player movement and the gunplay. I feel the Time to Kill (TTK) is much faster than previous BF games, which I have read that people are not happy about. Making negative comparisons to the Call of Duty Franchise. Personally, I prefer a faster TTK as it was always my beef playing BF games. You land 8 bullets on a guy and he still manages to run away or take cover always infuriated me. I got to play a few rounds of Conflict and Breakthrough on the Gibraltar, New York City, and Egypt maps. I honestly liked the maps. I have been reading fans unhappy with the smaller maps (even though I believe there are larger maps that will be released). I prefer urban combat maps. Having to check windows and corners while keeping your head on a swivel for tanks is exhilarating. Not that I hate large maps but sometimes you are running from one point to another for what feels like forever just to catch a sniper bullet in your cranium. No bueno.

I did not get a lot of opportunity to test out all the small arms available. The M4A1 felt good and the LMG the support class starts with pounded. The shotgun is definitely overpowered and will need to get nerfed before the release date. Briefly tried out the sub-machine gun under the engineer class. Did not try the scout class as I have never been a talented sniper. The weapon customization is what you would expect from a modern first person shooter of the military genre. Not as detailed as Delta Force, but I think that is a good thing as DF weapon smithing is just a little much.

There is a lot of chatter right now online about how the Beta is going. Some people are shouting "we are back", while others are in the "no preorders" camp. End of the day I always ask myself, "did I have fun?" I had a great time. I am still reserving judgement until launch day as I know EA will somehow fuck it up based on their history. I am cautiously optimistic that we will have an entertaining new entry in the Battlefield series.
Well those are my thoughts with the limited time I got with the beta. Hopefully EA hits it out of the park and I see you on the battlefield in October. Thanks for stopping in to read the blog and as always stay safe out there gamers.
