Mission 6 - Imperial Detention Centre, Crix Madine's Fate

Let me first start off addressing the large break in the series of articles. This level was the most frustrating, confusing, blood pressure raising level so far. There is so many floors, and walls to blow up, and key cards with codes to input. After running around for an hour like an idiot I finally flipped my keyboard, I think literally yelled the word "ARGH" and turned the game off. Then I took a break.. A long one.. But it's time to get back in the saddle and challenge myself again.

In this level former Imperial Officer turned Rebel Crix Madine (from Return of the Jedi fame) has been imprisoned for treason. Your job is to infiltrate the detention centre, locate the cell block Madine is being held in, and liberate him from the clutches of the Empire. You are dropped off by Jan on a grayish white rocky terrain and you must find a way into the facility. You are faced with the typical imp baddies patrolling the area. Once you are in, you are faced with a complex on multiple floors with two elevator systems. This is where it gets frustrating. You clear these floors then you kind of get stuck. There are also so many red hearings. Crack in a wall? Maybe blowing it up will help? Damn it just a stupid secret area. Plug in a passcode and.. It worked!! It opened a wall with some health packs but nothing else? Ah come on !!! After aimlessly walking around the map over and over again I knew what needed to be done. Cheating.

Good old faithful YouTube, never steered me wrong before. There is a walkthrough for every little facet of life on there. So I watched a guy who was way better then me beat the level and I knew what I was missing. At one of the elevators I needed to send it back up, then go down this hallway, enter the elevator shaft, a couple leaps of faith and bam! Back on track. I finally made it to the cell block, opened the door to the cell and was met with an interrogation droid at my jugular. Of course he wasn't in the first cell I opened. Finally I free Madine and mission was successful.

One things for sure, games where so challenging back in the day. I think I have gone soft as most games have so much hand holding now. Waypoints, Auto Saves, tips reminding you what to do, it's almost like the games play for us now. Back then games plopped you into a maze of pixels and told you to figure it out.

That level is in the books, I need a relaxing ride on my horse in RDR2 and maybe some fishing to calm the nerves.

Stay safe out there gamers.
