Mission 9 Nar Shaddaa

Reliving the Classics is a series where I replay a game from my childhood and recap the experience level by level. Be sure to catch up on previous entries in the blog!
Obi-wan Kenobi once famously said "Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy". He clearly was forgetting about Nar Shaddaa. In mission 8 the Rebels learn that the Empire has been using smuggler lanes to ship materials needed to build the Dark Troopers. Kyle is tasked with going to the moon of Nar Shaddaa to find the Imperial smuggling route in hopes of leading him to the main factory.

Nar Shaddaa would be a familiar setting for fans of the series. Kyle will return to the Vertical City a few more times before the end of the Katarn saga. Nar Shaddaa is the moon of Nal Hutta, the home world of the Hutt species. This meant the moon is majority in control by the Hutt Crime Syndicate, which means anything goes on the "Smuggler's Moon". The world itself is very much like Coruscant where the entire moon is one big City built over Millennia to the Sky. On Nar Shaddaa though the surface became too polluted and unlivable, which drove citizens higher into the sky. You know what this means level design wise right? That's right, falling to your death from high platforms.
The level itself is a confusing bunch of corridors and warehouses that one can get easily lost in. The level is full of annoying Grans just tossing thermal detonators at you like its just another day at the office. Gamorrean Guards make another appearance (foreshadowing anyone?). We are introduced to a new baddie the Trandoshans. These guys are like Lizard men who like to wear surplus Soviet Cosmonaut suits. Trandoshans first appear in Star Wars The Empire Strikes back with Bossk the Bounty Hunter. In the game they wield the Concussion Rifle which is a boss weapon. Once you waste that bounty hunter scum and pry that rifle from his cold dead scaly hands its party time. The concussion rifle is this boxy black and grey rifle that shoots this blue energy. You basically just have to point it in the general direction of an enemy and they are wiped out by this little explosion. One of my favourite weapons in the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series.

Eventually I got stuck and was wandering around this warehouse of storage containers for like 30 minutes. After some choice swear words I caved and pulled up a YouTube video. Turns out there is like this little corridor you barely even notice you need to go down and I got back on track. Eventually you find this blue glowing computer chip representing the smuggler plan. Thank god the game then prompts you to hit escape to end the mission. If I had to go back through the labyrinth I would have had to ugly cry.
Overall decent level. Good artwork. New bad guy. New weapon. Lot's of swearing by me the player. Good times had by all.
I hope you enjoyed another Reliving the Classics blog post. Thank you for the support and stay safe out there gamers.
